• no double glass panels on the windows. too much noise from the street so had to use ear plugs. wireless internet is actually t-mobile, not the hotels network. you have to pay extra for it, 24 euros per day. makes a difference. washroom is ancient! you would figure a 4 start would have better washrooms. there was actually rust, and the tub had dents and repair work on some spots. washroom windows glass panels shake dangerously when touched. i would not go back to this hotel. it is really a 2 star disguised as a 4 star.

• the location was ideal for my trip. convenient for nearly everything. about 15-20 minutes walk from dam square, or 30 seconds from a tram stop if preferred. the room was spacious and well presented, with a large bathroom. many reviewers have complained about the noise from the leidsestraat side of the hotel. i honestly cannot understand this. my room was on the first floor, immediately level with the tram cables on the leidsestraat and, although aware when trams passed, it was never intrusive and i never heard any crowds. maybe this was because i had air con and no windows were ever open? certainly, the noise level was less than i would have expected from a hotel situated next to such a busy street. i cannot comment on breakfast or bar facilities, as i always prefer to sample the local bars and eateries rather than spending my time in the hotel. the wireless internet was quite convenient.


• the only thing which annoyed me was having to switch off all the lights everytime i returned to the room after housecleaning. they were all controlled by the main switch by the door and were individually switched back on each day. seeing as thats the only thing i can fault, it says a lot.

• the sink and shower drain were both clogged and filled up on first use. small bits of rubbush and food were coming up, not plesasant. service staff fixed this. also, there was supposed to be a safe in our room, there was not. last time we had a bath tub, there was only a shower this time. i feel that we got the wors room in the hotel (406).

• had a room overlooking the street. the noise was dreadful through the weekend. hardly any sleep on saturday & sunday night. should inform guests of problem, or construct some double glazing. it was a pity as the hotel was otherwise very convenient.
