Leidseplein

Yet within 2 minutes walk of the hotel you find the restaurants and nightlife of Leidseplein. The square developed in the 17-th century as a wagon park for farmers and peasants to leave their carts here before entering the city centre. The name is because of Leidsepoort, which once marked the end of the main road from Amsterdam to Leiden. Nowadays, Leidseplein is a busy tram intersection and centre of night-time transport. Leidseplein is one of Amsterdam's popular centres for nightlife, with theatres, lots of cafes, restaurants, cinemas, the casino, the Lido theatre with live entertainment and music centres Paradiso and Melkweg. Street musicians, jugglers, fire-eaters and other performers make the square a lively place until the early hours, especially on warm summer evenings.
Hotel The Golden Bear can arrange guided tours through historic Amsterdam. These gay-lead (walking or cycling) tours last 2 hours. The cost of the tour is euro 100,00 (max. 10 persons and exclusive biciyle rent) and need to be reserved a few days in advance. A group tour (more than 10 persons) at euro 10,00 per person can also be booked.
Amsterdam-inside is initiated by guide and journalist Hans Tulleners (1949) who is specialized in the history of the city. For more than 25 years he has shown many people why this city of canals with its 7364 historical buildings is also called the biggest open air museum in Western Europe. He also wrote seven books about the historical houses of Amsterdam. For foreign visitors to Amsterdam Amsterdam-inside offers various possibilities.
One of the most popular walks is specially made for people who like to know the historical city in a short time. This tour is private: just for you and your guests. It is based on your schedule, budget and interests. Your guide picks you up at your hotel for a two hours lasting walk. Amsterdam-inside opens doors that are normally closed. We show you an eigthteenth century interior, a canalgarden and an almshouse. The walk can be finished in a beautiful historical pub. The excursion can be given in Dutch, English, Italian, French or German.
Another option is a tour through historical Amsterdam in a group. We walk along certain specific canalhouses, visiting beautiful gardens, sneeking into an almshouse and visiting an antique shop. We end our tour in a traditional 'bruine kroeg'.

- de gemoedelijkheid onder de gasten uit verschillende landen
- de trap , maar als minpunt was dat ook vaak de oorsprong van hilarische taferelen dus al bij al stoorde het niet

- the location was excellent!the room size was just about right ,the staff were helpful and friendly, the atmosthere cosy and genuinely welcoming.ill be definetely back in my next stop in the unique amsterdam.congratulations!!!
- the hotel room ive stayed in would be more appropriately heated if the windows were to be double-glazed.the central heating system, however working in perfect order, took far too long time to heat up the room.

- except for one person on staff, none of the other staff members were particularly interested in being helpful or accomodating - not that they didnt do what was requested of them, but they except for one person, none were particulary warm or friendly. also, i was required to switch rooms after my first night there, which i had not been informed about prior to my trip. also, when i asked how much it cost to use the room phone, i was told 35 cents. what staff didnt bother to tell me, was that it cost 35 cents just to pick up the phone, but 1 euro per minute to use the phone!!! you can imagine what my hotel phone bill was. i think that these things should be in writing in the hotel information directory found in each room.
