• excellently located, friendly, family-run hotel that offers real value for money. you wont find anywhere else in amsterdam so well situated for ease of access to centraal station (15 mins walk, less on tram), or the centrum district (10 mins walk to nieuwmarkt), or away from the noise of the hotels right smack in the middle of town. good nights sleep, anyone? breakfast is served in a lovely old drawing-room type area. so much better than the "canteen" feel of other places i have stayed at. all in all - and i mean this as a compliment - its not really like staying at a hotel - more like guesting with a family. i will definitely make this place top of my list for staying at in future visits to the dam.

• friendly staff. homely feel. peaceful location. easy walk to city centre (about 15 minutes). close to tram stop. park, canal and wonderful botanical gardens on the same street.


• room a bit cold when weather was cooler than expected. shower sometimes temperamental.

• the hotel was clean, secure and in a good location, next to the botanical gardens. everything is within walking distance and there are tram stops near by. the breakfast is good value with plenty of choice. the staff are friendly, rooms and bathrooms are clean, and the hotel provided a hair dryer, plug/mobile phone adaptors and alarm clock. having a fridge and a kettle was also a bonus. my only quibble (very slight) would be the steep stairs and soft mattress.

• lousy breakfast due to a major trade fair, all hotels were booked and charged a surcharge in this case of 70%. consequently, value for money was very poor. they wanted to charge 5% extra for use of a credit card.

• stairs are dangerously steep and narrow--difficult to negotiate with a suitcase. thin walls between rooms--noise from the neighbors!
