Rijksmuseum

In 1808 the museum moved to Amsterdam on the orders of king Louis Napoleon, brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. The paintings owned by that city, such as The Nightwatch (Dutch Nachtwacht) by Rembrandt van Rijn, became part of the collection.
In 1885 the museum moved to its current location, built by Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers. He combined gothic and renaissance elements. The building is richly decorated with references to the Dutch art history.
It includes works by artists Jacob van Ruysdael, Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer and Rembrandt van Rijn.

- one of the few hotels we could book a triple room. location, by the museums, and across the street from the concertgebouw. desk staff were pleasant and helpful throughout.
- one day the housekeeper (not the regular one?) threw out food (granola bars, cookies) we had in the room, and didnt restock the bathroom with towels, etc.

- great location, good size room and bathroom.
- only thing was the directions from the website says this - from the central station it takes about 15 minutes. take tram 5 or 16, get off at the stop concertgebouw. - which was helpful but the stop wasnt called concertgebouw so we missed the stop.

- i dont do surveys but our stay at museum square so far exceeded our expectations that i am willing to break my rule. our room was spacious and airy, even with the added rollaway bed (two grandparents and a 11 year old), the beds comfy, and the staff more than helpful. we walked to all the museums, the park, and found a nearby grocery, and many good small restaurants for meals. i would definitely stay here for a return visit.
- with the weak dollar and strong euro, the cost of breakfast in the hotel seemed too much for 3 people, so we skipped it. on the other hand it gave us the incentive to get out and find a variety of places for hot chocolate and croissants with the locals.

- scrambled egg and bacon the only hot breakfast every morning, it would have been nice to have had other options eg fried eggs ,grilled tomotoes ,baked beans available as breakfast sets you up for the day.
