Leidseplein

Op minder dan 7 minuten loopafstand van het Sphinx Hotel vindt u restaurants en nachtleven van het Leidseplein. Het plein kent haar oorsprong uit de 17de eeuw als koetsenpark voor boeren en andere provinciale om hun koets of wagen te stallen voordat zij de stad binnen gingen. De naam kent haar oorsprong door de Leidsepoort, welke kenmerkend was voor het eindpunt van de hoofdweg van Amsterdam naar Leiden. Tegenwoordig is het Leidseplein een druk plein welke een centraal punt voor de trams vormt. Het Leidseplein is een van de populairste uitgaansplekken van Amsterdam, met theaters, velen cafés, restaurants, bioscopen, het casino en natuurlijk Paradiso en Melkweg trekt het vele mensen aan. Overdag kan men veelal genieten van jongleurs, straatmuzikanten, vuurspuwers en andere acts op het plein.

there was no tv, or dvd player.. n the hallways smelled like piss.. the rooms where dirty.. and looked nothing like the pictures.. the staff wherent real friendly when i toled them i wanted an tv.. overall it was pretty bad hotel..

a six in suite was reserved with bath and balcony andtv. no bath no balcony available: we got five (not six)individual bad quality beds (like a dorm one above the other in a youth hostel). dirty, dirty, dirty: dirt everywhere. no light in the first night. insufficient light the rest of the days. the remote control of tvset has not been given despite request. tvset functioned badly. the shower (no bath) was a disaster, dirt and decayed. request immediate previous pay and 4% extra if credit card.

its a quiet place but still close to town and to the tram station. its placed between center, bars and museums. the staffs friendly. new towels every day.

it was just really simpel, beds and breakfast...but it was one of the cheaper hotels so i think thats ok. the showers were uncomfortable (without curtain) and the floor was dirty.

housekeeper was great - offered and carried bags down steep steps for 3 floors

service (other than housekeeper) was very poor, counter staff were unhelpful, food ran out at both breakfasts as did drinks.
