Embedded between the North Sea in the West and a hinterland rich in facilities in the East, Bergen is enormously attractive to its inhabitants, to businesses and to vacationers.
The area stretches from Camperduin in the North to Egmond-Binnen in the South and covers a surface area of almost 120 square kilometers.
The municipality of Bergen has almost 32,000 inhabitants and plays an important role in the region: inhabitants from neighboring municipalities like to use the recreational and cultural facilities the municipality has to offer. Furthermore, Bergen has an important tourist function both nationally and internationally.
Bergen contains a large number of centers, each with their own identity, culture and atmosphere.
There are a number of similarities between these centers –e.g. the beach, the woods and the dunes- but also clear differences. Tourism may be an important source of income for the municipality as a whole, but each center gives this their own interpretation.
Schoorl has many camp sites, Egmond is better known as a large seaside resort suitable for families and Bergen remains a center of quiet, beauty, art and culture.
The identity of the various centers is safeguarded within the new municipality Bergen. It is precisely this diversity and variety that make the area so attractive.
