South Limburg

A holiday in South Limburg is seen by the Dutch as going abroad without leaving the country. The rolling hills and typical timber-framed Dutch Tudor houses form an interesting contrast to the rest of the country. The coming together of three countries; Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany at the southernmost tip of the province add something unique to this part of the Netherlands.

There is a long tradition of catering for tourists here and this is reflected in the hospitality of the local people. Epen lies at the heart of this beautiful region located within striking distance of Maastricht, and Aachen (20 minutes), Liege (45 minutes), Brussels (90 minutes), and Cologne (60 minutes). The local area is a sort of nature reserve with flora and fauna unique to the valley of the river Geul. Imagine yourself standing on the banks of the river with Mistletoe rustling in the native Poplars or in the midst of native Orchids and Zinc Violets, which are only to be found in this area.

Sunken paths and Whitethorn hedges full of wildflowers lead you to abundant forests where with a bit of luck you will spot a wild Deer, a Badger or a native toad. Tradition and folklore go hand in hand here in this area. Traditional processions and the lighting of the traditional pagan bonfires to mark the passing of winter into spring in Epen are just a sample of the traditions which still live here. For sports lovers, Epen and the surrounding region, offers a choice of Golf, Horse riding, and Mountain bike trails.

Should you wish to participate in these sports, we can organise this for you.
In the winter there is also the possibility of cross-country skiing in de Ardennes (B) or with a bit of luck in Vaals – close by. Rambling is by far the most popular pastime here and there are a wide variety of Rambling trails you can follow.

De club-like lounge, with its beautiful Audubon prints runs seamlessly over onto the south facing terrace. Here is where we serve our traditional Afternoon Tea. There are also comfortable armchairs by the open hearth. Here you can relax with a drink and a book – a delicious way to pass an evening.

The colourful, leafy, garden is just three steps up from the terrace, and offers plenty of shade in the summer.

The hotel can also accommodate 2 horse in our stables with optional use of the meadow. From 4 t/m 10 July 2008 our kitchen is closed, therefore we do not serve dinner (half borad is not possible for that period). Breakfast will be served.
All hotel rooms are modern and comfortable and the hotel has a lift serving both the guest-room floors. Although there is no a la carte restaurant we have a daily changing 4 course menu for those wishing to dine in the evening.
