One of the most important industrial cities in Flanders, Genk was the heart of the 19th-century coal-mining industry in the province of Limburg. The Carbon hotel is located in the centre of this revitalizing urban hub – voted the friendliest city in Europe by the SEA Tourist Commission – and its design embraces Genk’s industrial history: a grey façade evokes the nearby mining fields, and the use of carbon-based building materials references the coal itself, a fossil fuel composed primarily of carbon.

The hotel’s 60 rooms are open and spacious, and each comes equipped with iPod, television, DVD player and mini-bar. All are located at the back of the hotel, meaning that each provides a stunning view of Carbon’s 1500-square-metre, first-floor terrace garden, a calm sanctuary in the middle of a bustling city. In every room open space is central and created by the 5 elements. Water takes great importance in some rooms, in other rooms the earthy fabrics are more common. All materials used are element based and the sixth element being carbon comes out through coal mine fragments.

The Winebar serves the best wines and champagnes, combined with culinary sushi food in an open kitchen. Why chose between lobster, cod and filet pur if you can have it all?

The city spa is a way of living introduced to you through relaxations, tai chi, four dimensional body works, chakra, food & health advise and wellness.

On the hotel’s top floor sits a vast, 700-square-metre spa and healing centre, where health club, sauna, hammam, chromotherapy, relaxation treatments, massage, cocoon corners, herbal baths, tai chi and chakra are available to guests, as is a 200-square-metre terrace with southern exposure. A restaurant, winebar, VIP room and three meeting rooms can also be counted amongst the hotel’s many facilities. Small pets are allowed but on request.
