Gent
Ghent is a city and a municipality located in Flanders, Belgium. It is the capital and biggest city of the East Flanders province. The city started as a settlement at the confluence of the Rivers Scheldt and Lys and became in the Middle Ages one of the largest and richest cities of northern Europe. Today it is a busy city with a port and a university. The city is connected to the sea by the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, it lies at the intersection of the European highways E17 and E40 and it has the third busiest railway station in Belgium.
Architecture
Much of the city's medieval architecture remains intact and is remarkably well preserved and restored. Its center is the largest carfree area in Belgium. Interesting highlights are the Saint Bavo Cathedral with the Ghent Altarpiece, the belfry, the Gravensteen castle, and the splendid architecture along the old Graslei harbour. Ghent established a nice blend between comfort of living and history – it is not a city-museum. The city of Ghent houses also three béguinages and numerous churches, among which the Saint-Jacobs church and the Saint-Nicolas Church are the most beautiful examples. There is an opera house and a few theatres. Highlights of modern architecture are the university buildings (the Boekentoren or Book Tower) by Henry Van de Velde. The beguinages, as well as the belfry and adjacent cloth hall, were recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites in 1998 and 1999.

- de ligging is zeer gunstig en het is niet zo massaal
- niet zo zeer ,maar persoonlijk vond ik het er muf ruiken en een stofdoek is ook niet overbodig

- het is een oud pand met allure; de inrichting was hierop afgestemd.
- tip: een bevestigingshaak voor de douchekop. de locatie is op zich erg goed, vlakbij het centrum. op maandagochtend bleek het hotel in een straat te liggen waarop om 4.30 en 6.00 uur vrachtwagens gelost worden. voor of naast het hotel. wie aan de voorkant slaapt is dan zeker wakker.

- het bed was wat smal, maar dat kan ook aan ons formaat liggen. er zijn kamers met twee bedden, die we volgende keer zeker gaan resereveren.
