In the middle of the 19th century, De Barrier was a stop where men and their horses took a beneficial pause along their long journey.
These days, De Barrier is more than ever, a place of meeting, a refuge in the heart of Limburg.
Rik Vandersanden and his wife Chris, will receive you in their nice and cozy environs where you will find a lot of taste and style.
They are pleased to open the doors of their hospitable residence.

We find Rik Vandersanden in front of the cooking-range. His kitchen is an international one. The dishes are light and the kitchen is known by its fresh products of an extremely high quality.

The client is the most important person and he will be received by a team of friendly waiters in a professional way and with much of attention. This service of hospitality is very personnel-minded and it gives the restaurant a seal of tradition. On the menu of the restaurant, we find the knowledge of the chief cook and each plate is made up with products which represent the highest culinary standards.

This creative way of cooking makes that every party, like a wedding, a meeting or a dinner outside of the restaurant becomes a special occasion.

Already 19 years long, Rik and his wife Chris are pleased to receive visitors from far away in their Hotel-Restaurant De Barrier in Houthalen. Every client will be received warmly and for every client, Rik will prepare a delicious meal, with products adapted on the time of the year. Also the big companies are pleased with the combination of creativity and quality.

After one year of refreshment, De Barrier is even more accessible for international and business people.

On the first floor of the hotel, Rik Vandersanden has add 10 luxurious rooms. On the ground floor, you will find a nice bar and a cosy lounge bar, 4 different areas of the restaurant, each of a different size. We possess of a big area, where we can accept as about 300 persons. Perfect to organise a wedding or a big meeting.

If you cannot take up your booking, you need to cancel no later than 1 day(s) before your date of arrival. Please take into account that the date of arrival starts at 0.00 am (CET.) Any booking not taken up and not cancelled 1 day(s) before arrival will be billed at a cost equivalent to the price of the first night. A different cancellation policy may apply for group bookings.
