Katwijk and surroundings
A stay in Katwijk means enjoying the fresh air, the broad and clean beach, and the sea. Naturally, the 'Blue Flag' is waving here. There is a lot to do; walking, cycling, painting on the beach, sporting, visiting the Katwijks museum or a fun attraction. For young adolescents, seniors, families with little children, or groups, there is something to do for everybody in every season. The old Dutch city Leiden has a large value of historical culture; the monumental facades and the canals are a feast for the eyes. Amsterdam and Den Hague are close by.
The Keukenhof
In spring, you can enjoy the blooming tulipfields in the near surroundings of Lisse in the Dutch bulb-growing region. The Keukenhof, is a park full of atmosphere measuring more than 32 hectares with over 7 million flowers. The Keukenhof is opened in the spring.
Flowerparade
On the 2nd Saturday of August the flower parade of Rijnsburg has more than 50 floats and cars which go, alternated by a great number of bands, as a colourful ribbon through Rijnsburg, Katwijk, and Noordwijk.
The Kagerplassen
Favourite activities during summer time are visits to the beach or a boattrip on the Kagerplassen near Warmond. The lakes are an eldorado for lovers of sailing, canoeing, rowing, waterskiing, and angling. More than 150 boats are for rent.
Estec
The European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC, sited in Noordwijk, is near by. The visitors centre Space Expo is opened during the whole year.
Polder and city
Near Leiden lies Zoeterwoude, a typical Dutch 'polder'. The widespread flat and lust pastures have a broad diversity of monumental cheesefarms, of which 3 can be visited. Birdlovers do not want to forget their binoculors. Autumn and winter: Pay a visit to one of the many museums in Leiden, after that get a breath of fresh air at the beach and have a hot chocolate at one of the many beach pavilions.
