Hasselt is known as a nice and friendly city with lively streets and squares, colourful outdoor cafés and stylish shops. The city has gained international fame as a mecca for fashion-conscious shoppers, a reputation that is further enhanced by its Fashion Museum and a special Fashion Walk. Hasselt is also the Jenever (Gin) City par excellence. This Belgian gin capital has two symbolic landmarks: the National Gin Museum and the ‘Borrelmanneke’, a bronze statue of a man sitting on an ox, carrying a barrel of gin.
