Schiermonnikoog

Schiermonnikoog is an island just of the coast of the Netherlands with approximately 1000 inhabitants and only one village with the same name.

There are very few vehicles on the island as visitors are not allowed to bring their own. Ample parking facilities at low costs are available close to the dock in Lauwersoog on the mainland from where the ferries are leaving.

The distance from the ferry landing on the island to the apartments is approximately 3.5 km and there are taxis that will take you there.

The easiest way to reach the pension is by taking a local bus with destination Middenstreek / Langestreek and get of at the bus stop Pension Westerburen. (second bus stop in the village) If you come by bicycle take the road along the dike with direction village. In the village you will find the local tourist information office (VVV) at your right hand side, after Hotel Van der Werff (left hand side) you turn left into the Middenstreek where you find Pension Westerburen at number 32.

Pension Westerburen is situated in a quite residential area near the centre of the village at walking distance from some hotels and restaurants. The proprietor doesn’t reside in the pension.

The pension has ten 2-persons rooms, seven situated in the main building and three in a garden annex behind the pension. In some of the rooms an extra bed can be put up. All rooms have two single beds, TV and an alarm clock and each has its own bathroom with toilet and shower. Please be aware that Pension Westerburen has an other cancellation policy than most of the hotels presented at Hoteliers.com. A bank payment is asked in advance this is because pension Westerburen only has 10 rooms available.

In the morning the breakfast is served in the glazed veranda at the front side of the building. This spot offers a lovely place to sit and to watch the street live in the “Middenstreek”. On the veranda there are also reading books, newspapers and some family games. In front of the building you find a small terrace with chairs and tables to enjoy in favourable weather conditions.
Drinks are available from the well-stocked fridge on the ground floor, while tea and coffee can be obtained trough a vending machine. Visitors are expected to keep a record of their consumptions which should be paid before departure.

In short, Pension Westerburen is the ideal location for a pleasant stay at Schiermonnikoog.

Payment is only possible by banktransfer or by paying cash in the hotel. Cash cards, Debit cards or credit cards are not accepted in the hotel. There is a cash dispenser/ ATM machine (RaboBank) within 100 meters from the hotel.

You will have to pay the full room rate in advance (100%). When the bookings date is at least 4 months before the arrival date we ask you to pay 50% of the room rate and the other 50% 4 weeks before the arrival date.

For one night a surcharge of euro 5,- per person will be calculated, this is however only possible as a last minute reservation.
