Schoorl, Groet and Camperduin lie like a ribbon along the edge of the Schoorlse Duinen National Park, broad dunes with an area of 1800 hectares. The district is distinguished by a varied overgrowth, a few dune streams, kilometres of cycling and hiking paths and three high climbing dunes. On the eastern edge a characteristic Holland polder land is visible. Where the range of dunes stops, the Hondsbos Sea Defence starts with the 'de Putten' bird sanctuary at its foot. The architecture of the village is distinguished by detached houses, mostly villas built in the early 1900s. The different centres have all shopping facilities and small restaurants available.

At Schoorl aan Zee the North Sea Buch can be reached exclusively by bike, although the beach accesses at Hargen and Camperduin have parking facilities and a bus stop. The water-sports enthusiast can moor in the little harbour at Hargen, hard by sea and dunes. In the summer months the village is in the grip of various festivities such as the sail, surf and beach event 'Hargen on Sail', as well as treasure digs for children.
