De Dikke Van Dale, a 4-star property, is situated in Sluis historical city. The name of the hotel is derived from the name of the Dutch compiler of “‘De Dikke van Dale’’ dictionary. J.H. Van Dale who was born in Sluis.
Moreover, Sluis is an old historical city, which can be seen by the old city gates (from where the gate-keepers kept an eye on the enemy) and the Belfort Tower (1375). This tower reflected the richness and the power of Sluis. From this tower you will have a magnificent view on the city and the environment.
The city centre is situated within the city walls with a wide variety of shops, cafes, restaurants, which sparkle the city and give it a Burgundian character. A historic walk between the 14th century city walls belongs to one of the possibilities that Sluis has to offer. This tour will lead to different museums, like the agriculture museum, the mill and the city hall. Apart from exploring the city you can enjoy a cycling tour in the beautiful nature, which will lead you through the dunes, the Dutch Botanical Black Polder, the bird’s hatch places and the nature area ‘The Zwin’. Also you can discover the beatifull city Brugge that is situated about 20 minutes from the hotel. If you are more interested in shopping in combination with the beach,Knokke is the place to be for you. Here you can enjoy the beach of the Belgium coast and walk over the boulevard. Important to know is that Sluis has the most sun houres of Holland!!!

Restaurant "Johan Hendrik" is the gastronomical heart of the hotel. It has a rustic character and is decorated in Louis XIV style. On the menu you will find classical French dishes with a modern tint. Moreover, the head Chef lets the menu guide by the different seasons. He serves only the best, fresh products en specialities from the local area. If the sun is shining it is possible to have your dinner on the terrace.
