The hotel Scheepers is situated in the centre of Valkenburg, therefore a small description of this beautiful town.
The fashionable town of Valkenburg lies right in the middle of the Zuid-Limburg hills. This former medieval fortification is sometimes known as 'Bad Valkenburg', pointing to the presence of hot springs in earlier times or also as 'Town of Marl'. The warm, dark yellow colour of marl is omnipresent in the town and surrounding countryside, both below and above the ground.
There are many attractions and places of interest not to be missed, amongst which: castles, museums, amusement parcs, the caves, the local 'Holland Casino', the spa 'Thermae 2000' and the former hilltop fortification, now reduced to ruines.
Groups of 10 or more people can make bookings to go mountain-biking, TOKKELEN (???), climb rope bridges and go absailing, all UNDERGROUND!
Cosy little shops, restaurants with heated outdoor seating, the little river 'the Geul' and imposing houses are all characteristic of the Valkenburg cityscape. From the edge of the centre tours depart the let you go hiking and/or cycling in the surrounding hills.
