Vlieland is a municipality in the northern Netherlands. The municipality of Vlieland has only one major town: Oost-Vlieland. Vlieland is one of the West Frisian Islands, lying in the Wadden Sea. Counting from west to east, it is the second island in the chain; after Texel and before Terschelling. Vlieland was named after the Vlie.

Travel
Vlieland can be reached by ferry from the Frisian town Harlingen. The ferry ride takes about 1.5 hours and takes you across the Wadden Sea and even a bit over across the North Sea.

Landscape
The majority of the landscape of the island consists of dunes, but there are some forests and small meadows. And of course there is a lot of sandy beach. In fact a large part of the island, the western part, consists mainly of sand. It's also referred to as the Sahara of the north.

Information about Badhotel Bruin

Badhotel Bruin is the oldest hotel of the island, it’s from 1896. This hotel has just been renovated with a new and exciting interior. Shining black-marble floors, very comfortable pieces of furniture. Take the boat to Vlieland, leave your luggage at the horse and carriage which is waiting for you and walk through the village. The hotel is situated in the center of the mainstreet, just 10 minutes walking distance from the boat. Paul van Essen and Mirjam Westers are there to welcome you personally and will show you the hotel.

The restaurant offers you a Mediterranean dinner. We serve fresh fish which we buy in our own region. A romantic lunch or dinner at the beach or in the dunes is also possible. For private lunches or dinners we’ve got the “Kapiteinskamer”, with a fire place, a royal couch, and a flat screen television. We serve the whole day apple pie and cake from our familie who owns a bakery in which is situated a couple meters away from us.

Tasteful fresh coffee and tea is a must at Badhotel Bruin. Our selection of the is unique in The Netherlands. We are the proud owner of the biggest wine cellar or the northern part of The Netherlands, with wines in every price category. Do you want a drink with a snack, or a glass of champagne? In our relaxing jazz-café Mrs. Brown you will feel like home.

Experience a good night sleeping on a real Hästens bed. All our suites have these quality beds. The bright, modern stylised standard rooms have a flat screen tv, a bathroom with shower or bad, toilet, wash basin and a hair dryer. The spacious superior rooms have a bath and a shower. Families with children can choose for a family room or apartment.

Just relaxing is a good thing to do. That’s why we placed several love seats and couches to relax through the whole hotel. Excellent light for reading, tables full with newspapers and magazines, and always a fireplace nearby. Take a look at our high tech mediacenter and the library where our quest can borrow books. The Suana is available for 12,50 euro for 3 hours.
