Across the sea and far from the turbulent world: Vlieland. You get around on foot or on bike - cars are not allowed. There is a great sense of calm. Beautiful sandy beaches run the length of the island on the north side.
The “wadden” (mud flats) form the horizon to the south. There are many woods and a beautiful salt marsh area, “de Kroonspolders”. The island ends in a huge sand flat “de Vliehors”.
The only village, Oost-Vlieland, is dominated by the red lighthouse on the Vuurboetsduin, providing an alluring view. The facades of the buildings in the village bring to mind days of yore. Behind the facades you will find excellent shops, cosy bars and intimate restaurants. Vlieland is refreshing!
