This poem written in 1902 gives a moving picture of Wijk aan Zee, one of the most charming seaside resorts on the Dutch coastline. In Wijk aan Zee, the resort with 2400 inhabitants, time is immaterial. And this is mainly due to its position. Just a few miles away from an urban environment you come to the “edge of The Netherlands”. A village where space and tranquillity have been preserved.

Wijk aan Zee is a family seaside resort with the widest beach on the entire Dutch coastline and situtated centrally round the village square and village green. Hospitality, amiability and informality are the guiding principles of Wijk aan Zee. The village lies between the North Pier and the North-Holland Dune Reserve with its beautiful woods, dune valleys and dune lakes. In this area you can walk and cycle along dozens of marked out routes. In the dunes there is a permanent exhibition at the statue park "A Sea of Steel". Even out of season Wijk aan Zee has much to offer. Beverwijk has a lively shopping street and at the weekend you can visit the Beverwijk Bazaar, Europe’s largest covered market. In half an hour you can be in Amsterdam, Haarlem or Alkmaar with their many cultural and recreational facilities. The sea inlet by the North Pier is the favourite place in The Netherlands for experienced surfers. There are numerous sporting opportunities, from walking, cycling, bowling, go-karting, etc. to skiing in the snow. In short, Wijk aan Zee is a wonderful place for you to relax, to get a breath of fresh air and to forget everyday worries.

een prima service en vriendelijk personeel en we hebben genoten van de sauna.

we hebben gebruik gemaakt van de sauna die overigens prima was alleen de stoelen die daarin stonden waren van stof en die zagen er smoezelig uit. wij zouden stoelen aanraden die tegen wat vocht kunnen zodat ze niet vol vochtvlekken zitten.

zonde van de boom voor het hotel. het hotel komt daardoor niet goed in het zicht en het is een prachtig pand. op een oude prent zagen we dat er vroeger geen boom stond.

de verlichting op de kamers was niet zo goed. in de hal als je binnenkomt is het wat rokerig (stinkt naar rook).

er hangt een vriendelijke en gemoedelijke sfeer. erg prettig. de kamer was keurig. wel een beetje donker, maar voor 1 overnachting vonden wij dat geen probleem. het ontbijt was uitstekend verzorgd.

naast onze kamer (no. 14) was een oude trap. daar groeide veel mos en planten op en daar kwam een beetje een rottende geur vanaf. niet prettig als het raam openstond. wellicht dat daar iets aan te doen is.
